What is MediaWiki #
Mediawiki is a collaboration and documentation platform used by many companies. This is the open-source platform anyone can use, and the main part it is free to use. This is the guide to install the Media-Wiki developed by many of the volunteers. It is free to use under the GNU General Public License.

Webservers
- the 2 main webservers are apache and IIS
- it also works on (LiteSpeed, Nginx, Lighttpd, and Caddy.)
PHP
- it works on the latest version of PHP (7.4.3)
- The minimum requirement of PHP is (7.3.19)
Database
it works on the following database
- MySQL 5.5.8+*
- MariaDB 5.1+
- PostgreSQL 9.2
- SQLite 3
Installation of Mediawiki #
For installation of MediaWiki, you have 2 methods to install.
- Installation using softaculous app installer
- Manual installation
Installation using softaculous app installer #
For installation of MediaWiki using softaculous app installer, you have to follow the following steps
Step1: login to the hostrik Cpanel account, and in the software section click on softaculous app installer.
Step2: in the softaculous window search the MediaWiki in the search box, the installation window of MediaWiki will open, click on install.
Step3: In the next window select the version of MediaWiki you want to install and then select the protocol (HTTP:// or HTTPS://) and select the domain and directory of the MediaWiki (if ypu want to select directory).
Step4: In the next step give the name to the site and also give the email for the site.
Step5: in this step create the admin account of the site by giving a username and password.
Step6: choose the language of your wiki and also enables upload and editors by checking the box
Step7: In the advanced section select the database for the site and also select the backup and then click on install. this is the installation method using softaculous app installer.
Manual installation #
In the manual installation, you have to follow some steps the steps are divided into 3 parts
- File configuration
- Database creation
- Mediawiki configuration
File configuration
Step1: go to the official site of MediaWiki and from the download, section downloads the latest version of it.
Step2: login to your hostrik Cpanel account and upload the downloaded file in the public_html folder and extract it where you want to install the Media-Wiki.
Database creation
Steep1: in your, Cpanel goes to the database section and click on MySQLDatabase, create the database here type a database name click on create database.
Step2: create the user for the database type the username and passwords for the user and click create user.
Step3: add privileges to the user by clicking all privileges.
Mediawiki configuration
Step1: go to the URL you are going to install MediaWiki select the language you want to install Media-Wiki in.
Step2: in the next step Media-Wiki will check all the requirements for the installation. When all requirements are ok then click on continue.
Step3: in the next step connect the database which you created to the Media-Wiki. Give database name also give the username of the database.
Step4: in the next step tick use the same account for installation and click continue.
Step5: In the next step give the name for the Media-Wiki then give username password and email address for the account creation.
Step6: first click on continue to install Media-Wiki.
Step7: In the next step of installation it will show all requirements are done or not when all done then click on continue.
Stpe8: in the next step, you will get the installation is completed.
